I have 2 mouse buttons mapped to Left and Right via USB Overdrive, previously on Catalina, I could use option+mouse button (remapped as left) to send the singal option+left, now that doesn't work. When I turn off "Modify events" for all the (Overdrive) devices, my mouse speed is as expected, but I can no longer use the mouse button as keys that can be modified by my keyboard, i.e. I also have USB Overdrive for my mouse (Evoluent VM4) to remap some of the buttons as keyboard keys. I also have a similar issue since updating to Big Sur from Catalina. I solved the issue by uninstalling USB Overdrive and using Steermouse to remap my mouse buttons disabled modifying mouse events in Karabiner and now it works as before without lag, and I'm able to use the mouse buttons and modify them with my keyboard. To anyone helping maintain & provide Karabiner, thank you!
I have the time and am willing to test builds out and even take notes. I'm happy to work directly with any developer(s) to help pin this down. I realize this may be a specific problem between the Rival 600 and Karabiner on MacOS, but I thought if I open the issue here it might be a kickoff point for anyone experiencing similar problems. The kicker? I’m not even using Karabiner for any mouse button mappings. The lag is still there as long as Karabiner is installed. To try to isolate this I've tried unplugging all peripherals from the computer (2018 Macbook Pro), and shutting down all running applications. It'll be laggy for 8-10 seconds, then fine for a few minutes, or even sometimes an hour. This sort of lag behavior comes and goes. After moving the mouse a bunch I can take my hand off it and watch the cursor dance around the screen replaying my actions for 3-4 seconds. It seems to buffer the input and play it back slowly. I’m not talking the typical I'm-a-windows-user-that-doesn't like-Mac-acceleration-profiles lag, I mean when it happens I can move the mouse in circles and watch it start slowly playing back my actions at a rate far slower than my movement. The problem description: the mouse sees intermittent heavy lag. I thought this was a conflict with having Karabiner even installed, but it looks like disabling the mouse device in Karabiner also solves the lag. It's a bummer, as I'd like to use Karabiner for keyboard mods, but now I can’t.Įdit: thanks to for mentioning the option of disabling the device. I've filed a ticket with SteelSeries, but have since come to realize that removing Karabiner fixes my problem.

I'm using the SteelSeries Rival 600 (the wired one), and have made sure both its firmware and companion software are up to date. So this behavior is consistent with a Middle Button Click event, which usually will launch a new tab with that URL.I've seen this with several recent builds of Karabiner (^13.1.0), and I saw it before and after upgrading to Big Sur (currently on 11.1). This is the same as the link's URL attribute ( href="javascript:void(null)"), as we can see from that page's source code. In Firefox, I notice clicking with all three of these buttons launches a new tab with javascript:void(null). However, in some browsers, the defaults cannot be disabled, so various strange side effects may occur. It appears that the " which" JS event attribute numbers these as 4 and 5, while the button attribute numbers them as 3 and 4. Results are different between Chrome and Firefox. I've done some debugging using this Mouse Event Test Page. Pressing either button 4 or 5 results in the circular "autoscrolling" icon with Up and Down arrows appearing: I've been struggling with an issue seen only in Firefox where Mouse buttons 4 (back) and 5 (forward) appear to Firefox as if they were a button 2 click (Middle button click) event. Since this question is about Firefox, I'll go by Mozilla's numbering scheme here.
First, I need to say that I'm aware there is some confusion as to what button numbering scheme convention is used for these "Browser back" and "Browser forward" mouse buttons depending on whether you use numbering starting from zero 0 or one 1.
